We're finally home!

We've finally taken command of our beautiful new home a week ahead of the original scheduled date of 12 November 2004. And on Guy Fawkes' Day, no less (a British observance of the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot to blow the houses of Parliament to kingdom come in 1605...it's marked by bonfires and effigies of Guy Fawkes who is probably Britain's most notorious traitor). You could say that we certainly burned through a lot of ink to get to this point.

We couldn't be happier that we're finally past the building stage and into the homeowner thing. Don't get me wrong, we are very thankful for Julia's mom taking in a few refugees from our homeland in Clayton and putting up with us for the past couple of months (and frankly, her house is probably the most posh place I have *EVER* called home).

But there is all the difference in the world when you turn that key for the first time knowing that the house is yours and the frustrations of the past two weeks just melt away. That privilege fell to your friendly webmaster who took a Volkswagen stuffed to the rafters full of ceiling fans and other stuff scrounged from Lowe's hardware over here to drop in the garage of our new home.

What a wonderful phrase...our new home. We've had her house, we've lived in my house...but now it's our new home and that makes all of it worth it!

Over the coming weeks, walls will be painted, ceiling fans will be hung, and murals painted on Nicholas' and Alexander's bedroom walls. And I'm certain there will be more than a few pieces of furniture assembled by you-know-who.

The first wave of furniture from Haverty's is due tomorrow as are the Kenmore "Hettie" front-loader washer and dryer, and a kitchen table and chairs. Lest you think that the geek end of the house wasn't being taken care of...the phone was already on (29 October 2004) but we still needed cable and Road Runner as well as Julia's security system installed.

The main body of stuff is due next Tuesday when the big moving trucks arrive with the goods we put in storage. Then it's much fun with unpacking...woo hoo. :)
