Sherman, set the Wayback Machine for a week ago when we stopped at Chick Fil A after springing Alex from hospital.

Julia ordered the chicken noodle soup and what followed was truly comical. The first attempt arrives and it is bereft of any chicken larger than your average molecule.

You would think they would go out of their way to ensure the second attempt would have visible chicken content. And you’d be wrong!

At this point, we’ve resigned ourselves to the absurdity of soup bereft of the headliner ingredient. Fortunately the third attempt did have a fair bit of chicken and all was well in the world.

Fast forward to noon today which finds me ordering a chicken noodle soup for Julia to help her survive the icebox that is her office…ordering with huge trepidation as to what might come through the window.

Two things really made my day:

  1. The girl in the drive through lane taking the order was very understanding of why I was asking that they make sure there is chicken in the soup. Apparently the chickenless chicken noodle soup happens to her all the time…
  2. Julia texting me “we see chicken” as I’m heading back to the house (think of the scene in “The Sixth Sense”…it makes it even funnier)!

I’m glad they didn’t just hand you a chicken strip and tell you to shred it up for the soup!

We were rather surprised to discover from the manager on duty that the chicken is apparently added after the soup has been ladled into the bowl. This made the first two attempts even more amusing if you’re into utterly broken QA processes in a place where expertise with *CHICKEN* is usually presumed! Mind you…the rest of us did sandwiches or strips and those were quite fine straightaway… 🙂

That makes even less sense knowing this!

Sometimes you’ve just got to smile and tip your hat at the utterly absurd… 🙂
