We Didn’t Start The Fire!

We Didn’t Start The Fire!

But we certainly didn’t have any problems with shooting it!

Any decent lens will do to really get the colours of the flame to pop…were I shooting on a DSLR, I’d likely have the 50mm f/1.4 lens at hand. That f/1.4 aperture is huge…so large that I can shoot that lens in total darkness without using the flash!

But in this case, these all came from the back camera of an iPhone. The technology is constantly improving and it is estimated that half of the pictures taken on a given day on this planet are using a mobile phone as the camera.

Don’t ignore that powerful tool in your hand just because it doesn’t have a magnesium-alloy body or a honking huge lens on the front of it…you can still shoot amazing shots with nothing more than a phone camera.

And the iPhone has apps that will allow you to use the camera and simulate various film stocks (like Velvia 50 and Kodachrome which is no longer able to be processed!) and medium format cameras (like the Mamiya RB67 or the Pentax 645).

These shots are from the stock iPhone camera app with no further retouching.
