It’s merely symptomatic of our post-modern ennui. There are no absolutes and not to perceive our world as meaningless when it’s really your own freedom you detest. I like pork.

Brak in Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, Episode 16 — “A Life in the Day”

One of the cheapest ways I’ve found to get many meals that Brak would absolutely love is to invest in a boneless pork loin which often can be had for under $2/lb.

I’ll lop off the two ends of the loin (generally at the point where the darker red coloured meat goes away) and that’s two instant pork roasts right there that can be done either in the oven or if you’re looking for a truly trivial and easy dinner for those days where you’re really not into cooking…it’s hard to beat dumping them into the crock pot with your favourite pot roast companions!

All you have to do is brown all of the sides of the pork roast to lock in the flavour and juices and add it to the crock pot. Some Eastern NC barbecue sauce will give it a nice kick and two or three cups of water poured over the roasts and the patience to wait for the crock pot to finish cooking is all you need! 🙂

If you’re not willing to wait for the crock pot, you can put the roasts into the oven at 350 degF until the internal temperature reaches 145 degF on the thermometer which depending on the size of the roast can be about a hour or so.

The beauty of this is that the centre of the pork loin often can yield up to 10 thick-cut pork chops (the exact same things the grocery store’s butcher section would like to nail you for $4/lb or more to do the exact same thing in slicing the pork loin!) so that’s a few more meals sorted out!

This roast was very simple with just carrots and egg noodles but the possibilities are endless!
