From the “That Is Some Awfully High Water” Dept:

The local news station has their helicopter working their way south from Raleigh…downtown Fayetteville actually looks fairly decent and the bridges are generally open but that water is right under the deck of the bridges (and at the railroad bridge just north of downtown, there are a bunch of logs piled up right at the bridge deck).

Getting there from Raleigh would be a bit of a trick…most of I-95 is closed from US-64 (Rocky Mount) southward due to flooding and will likely be for a while. I-40 is also shut from I-95 in Benson all the way to Wilmington which is currently an island cut off from the rest of the state.

Once Sky 5 passed by Fayetteville…they continued on about 30 miles south and are now hovering over Lumberton and the flooding from the Lumber River is much worse. Much much worse. 🙁

I think it is safe to say the misery from Florence’s floods is going to be measured in weeks, not days.

All the best to our neighbours down south of here…
