On a morning where apparently my exhaustion seemed to think that waking up to an alarm clock early in the morning is for suckers, I found myself scrambling to collect Alex and then deliver him to Enloe High School in a most unusual place…the front of the school.

Normally his drop-off and pick-up is at the back of the school near the cafeteria but when you’re a bit tardy on your arrival…to the front you go!

And then I found out yet another change is that the attendance office is no longer in the East building but rather near the main office.

Surprise!

Back into the Traverse we go and make a quick run a little further down Clarendon Crescent where fortunately the security guards recognised Alex and passed him through to go to his classes without the usual bit of bother.

As I’m leaving the carpool loop in front of the West building, my little eye spied something in Enloe green I’d never seen before.

Apparently the Enloe Marching Band’s pit crew got an upgrade those of us who had been previously amongst the VOLUNTOLD had been salivating over for years every time we’d go to a competition and see a massive trailer that would allow loading and unloading the metric tonnes of kit far easier than Mr Turner’s van with the liftgate.

Don’t get me wrong…we got really creative with that truck and we packed it pretty much to the rafters with everything you’d need to stage a performance on the field. You’d be surprised how quickly our group could load and unload that truck and then have a bit of a chin wag during the many opportunities to hurry up and wait.

That was honestly one of the most fun jobs I’ve ever had with the odd bruise, scrape, and cut every now and then serving with some of the coolest and most dedicated mates I’ve ever known.

Even though it’s been years since Nicholas graduated and we’ve found other things to be voluntold to do, it was nice seeing that Mr Hunter’s current crop of dedicated instrument schleppers got a really nice upgrade to make their lives much easier than we ever experienced.

And that explains the mystery of why I hadn’t seen Mr Turner’s van in it’s usual place round back in about forever… 😉
