The weather report was certainly ghastly enough with wintry precipitation ahead of the actual start of the season (which you know what that means…this winter is going to stink on ice…literally!).

But even though there was the prospect of a fair heap of ice on the roads as well as at the arena, that didn’t stop us from making a quick run over there anyway for the Alumni Game.

Even though it was clear that they were running the game time faster than last year to get us back out on the roads before they got in a truly appalling state, it was still a joy to see cherished Hurricanes from years gone by some 20 years after many of them hoisted the team’s only Stanley Cup.

It’s also quite a thrill for the members of the NC State IcePack to be sharing the ice with legends from the NHL that they may well have dreams of playing in some years down the road.

Rod Brind’Amour was in rare form in the face-off dot…officially he didn’t lose a draw but let’s just say someone with an amateur’s interest in hockey statistics gathering did notice one face-off didn’t quite go his way.

But that didn’t spoil what was a fun evening for us all even if it was relatively brief before Nick would be off to Winston-Salem for a week of Toyota training and Mom and Meghann would be braving the snow on the motorways back toward Fayetteville.
