Day 2 – The Best Laid Plans

Day 2 – The Best Laid Plans

When we started this journey to the north, Julia and the kids were already at the coast in Nags Head and the original idea was that I’d come round sometime in the afternoon on Saturday (13 Aug 2022) to collect the kids, Mistletoe and whatever cargo is being offloaded and return to Raleigh so that Julia could have a week at the coast in peace.

What that plan didn’t exactly count on was a blue-eyed bundle of cuteness who has quite the powers of persuasion who hit me up for them to stay an extra day in Nags Head than we’d originally planned.

As it was her birthday, can you imagine how in the world would I ever say no to her?

So that’s when I started a frantic search to try to find some sort of hotel between Washington DC and Nags Head for the extra night.

I could bore you with the details but long story short, there were very few options to be had from Richmond all the way through Norfolk and onward all the way to the Outer Banks that weren’t breathtakingly expensive.

With no reasonable alternatives, adding an extra day where I was ultimately worked out to be a better option. I’d have to change rooms for that extra day but that room would also have the Jacuzzi tub.

The happy bonus is that the brutal five museum grind I was planning for tomorrow is no longer necessary and I’d even get to use the last day of the Metro unlimited pass that I wasn’t going to be able to use.

I can live with that! 🙂

I wouldn’t be able to let Katie know that her wish had been granted until the next day when she’d get a recap of how the trip had been going so far as I was riding the train back to Reston but I don’t think she minded it all that much.
