My brother Benjamin’s birthday finds me spinning the tunes for another late night session of MCHL Ironclad hockey.

Owing to that “other” reason for celebrating the last day of October, I couldn’t resist having a bit of fun with shamelessly abusing my authority over the music selections outside of the actual games where I take a random path through the league’s preferred playlist.

They get their music when they’re playing the game…I have my fun pretty much the rest of the time. Seems a fair dinkum deal to me… 🙂

With the kids on the ice before the Zamboni appears to resurface the rink before the first game, of course the pre-game set had a very familiar tune at the start…

  • “Thriller” – Michael Jackson
  • ”Tubular Bells, Part 1” – Mike Oldfield
    • This is the theme to “The Exorcist”, everyone knows the movie but few know the actual song!
  • “Once Bitten” – 3 Speed

For the Zamboni between the two games, there was only one real choice available and it had the happy bonus of taking the entire rink resurfacing time:

  • Toccata and Fugue in D-minor – Johann Sebastian Bach

The warmup period before that second game featured a couple of tracks from one of my favourite B-grade zombie movies ever…”Night of the Comet” and another track making a bit of a zombie return before the starting puck drop at centre ice:

  • ”Trouble” – Skip Adams
  • ”Strong Heart” – John Townsend
  • ”Tubular Bells, Part 1” (just the intro part to fill the time)
