From the “Why Yes, It *HAS* Been A While…” Dept:

And the irony is that it’s been slightly more of a while as I just got distracted with dashing off a novella for a friend who has many photos that she’d like converted to digital and offering my opinions on what someone looking at outsourcing photo scanning might want to consider. Don’t worry, I’ll capture the guts of that and clean it up for a post in the “Photography Tips” section as soon as I get a few more pressing bits of business out of the way.

It’s taken a fair bit of time to get to some measure of equilibrium after a big part of my family life here at the Nerdery end of the cul-de-sac was away from us nutters.

I am happy to report that in the past month, he has been released from hospital and is diligently working through the therapy to hopefully get back on his feet sooner than later. I wish I could say this will be a fast process but you’d know that for the lie it is…the unfortunate reality is that there are days that are great and some that aren’t so hot and the process is *AGONISINGLY* slow.

That is why it’s not surprising that one day I saw him walking round the block with Jessica holding on to him to ensure that the surgeon’s work didn’t go to waste and he was looking lively as ever and then there was the day I caught them coming back from visiting with their grandson a few miles away.

Anyone who knows Miguel and Jessica at all knows that JoJo is the centre of their universe. Full stop. There is nothing they won’t do for him and you can imagine what force you’d have to employ to break that gravitational attraction when they’re together.

You know it’s one of those not-so-hot days when they admitted Miguel had to leave JoJo well earlier than he wished to in order to rest and recuperate.

Having to rest when you’ve got enough pent up desire to *DO SOMETHING* that would be equivalent to the energy put out by any two stars in the known universe you would choose is enough to drive anyone to within an inch of their sanity. I can assure you he’s feeling that multiplied by a couple of orders of magnitude.’

All he’d need is to be bitten by the radioactive spider and strap on the web shooters and I’ve no doubt he’d be flying up the side of the Empire State Building if he could to relieve the pent-up anguish at having to take it easy.

But for now, it’s a matter of taking what the day brings and trying not to swing too high or too low. There will be joy and there will be frustration and unfortunately it’s usually more of the latter than the former but I have to say the experience with Alexander has trained us well to deal with those ups and downs.

He will eventually get to where he needs to be and right now the order of the day is to do whatever it takes to help get him there with the least amount of stress possible.

The most important thing is that he is home amongst those of us who love him and wish only for the best for him and the family. Our ‘ohana on the cul-de-sac might be a bit bruised and battered but it is at least whole again and everyone is where they need to be.

Ever since my kids were born, I’ve always slept easiest when they were all at home where they ought to be. It’s much the same way with those I love near me here at the cul-de-sac.

We are family by choice and that is always better when everyone is here and no one gets left behind. 🙂

Just because I’ve not been writing doesn’t mean it’s not been the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party round here.

Williams-Ohana got a bit of a makeover with retiring a pair of older WordPress themes in favour of a newer theme from the company that wrote the image gallery plug-in. I’d already tested switching the theme here so I was reasonably confident the transition would go well but even knowing the pitfalls, it still took a couple of days to complete which was not helped with me discovering some settings over there that would look nice here and doing some tinkering.

And more tinkering. Then the “I’m not so keen on that” cycle which led to more tinkering and tinkering upon the tinkering.

Wash (occasionally), rinse, repeat.

I’m pretty happy with both sites though there is always something to fool around with and go down the rabbit hole of time.

I’d also held off on content over there because the vast majority of it was about a subject that I had intentionally embargoed (OK, don’t freak out…this is a much happier subject than of late!). Eagle-eyed readers round here would have caught the one slip of the tongue vis-a-vis a name but in the next week or so, you can expect to see a massive dump of photos coming along and then you’ll understand why.

(Ooops, sorry…had a squirrel moment of another Facebook post which got a detailed answer comment. Where were we? Ah, yes…)

And have no fear, there’s a couple of deep dives that will come along the way presently. It hardly escaped my notice that there’s plenty of legal prosecutions going on as well as the Americans crashing out of the World Cup and if that wasn’t such a joy, seeing Lahaina on the Hawai’ian island of Maui reduced to ash with very regrettable loss of life makes me sad in ways that I’m still trying to process. Add to it a phone carrier trying to do awful things that I think are illegal under current law (not that they seem to care) and there’s certainly no dearth of content ideas.

Buckle up…it’s going to be one heck of a ride! 🙂
