UNC Basketball off to the Final Four!

Sometimes you get lucky when you hang out on the balcony at the General Aviation terminal that overlooks the GA ramp. In this case, I managed to catch the UNC Tar Heels boarding their charter flight to San Antonio for the Final Four! Sadly, they would fall short of the title but still that Delta MD-83 is a nice ride! :)

Cape Lookout to Oak Island

The quest to visit all of North Carolina's lighthouses is finally complete with this trip to Cape Lookout and then south to see Old Baldy and the Oak Island Lighthouse on the way to Ocean Isle Beach. Interestingly enough, North Carolina's oldest and newest lighthouses are not that far apart. You have to take a ferry to Bald Head Island to see Old Baldy (built in 1817) but it's well worth it. As you head…

Ocracoke to Currituck (take two!)

Whilst everyone was off visiting in Columbus OH, I had the chance to finally complete the ill-fated attempt at doing the full loop of the Outer Banks from Ocracoke Island all the way to Currituck Lighthouse near the Virginia border and back to Garner. Lee was a veteran registered nurse at Cape Fear Valley Medical Centre's Emergency Department and in his 53 years, he touched many lives along the way. When we'd go out and about running errands in Fayetteville, it was the very rare exception that we didn't meet someone he…

Nothing could be finer than the Stanley Cup in Carolina!
Of course, had to get a closeup of the 2006 Stanley Cup champions!

Nothing could be finer than the Stanley Cup in Carolina!

The Hurricanes downed the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in the decisive Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to bring Lord Stanley's mug home to Raleigh. That's two Cups in a row for the much-maligned Southeast Division!
