I had the honour of dropping Alex off at the Garner Chick Fil-A near Target (not that one, the other one with a Home Depot near by!) for his latest shift of working hard to please and serve the guests and charm all who come across his path!
After 48 hours of being locked in mortal combat with the keyboard and intense feelings and having not eaten for longer than that, I was definitely finally feeling like having a late lunch.
I could see that his store’s drive through was not the usual traffic jam so I quickly punched in the order into the mobile app whilst the light at US-70 and Timber was red.
I’m sure Alex was somewhat surprised that I didn’t park or drop him where I usually do but I figured I’d take care of that once I’d joined the drive-through queue.
As I’m waiting to visit with the chap with the tablet and booting Alex out of the Traverse, he’d already figured out that I was actually getting food and asked me if I wanted him to bring it to me.
We had made it into the queue a few minutes before he clocked in and I’d figured I’d be through the window before his shift started so I told him that I’d just go through the drive-through and we could do that another time and gave him the customary wishes for a decent shift of good work and let him go his way.
It’s not that I didn’t *WANT* him to deliver the food, I just figured I’d be through the queue well before he’d be on the clock to do it.
One quick check in and I’m round the building and on final approach to the drive-through window.
I could see the young lady was looking at a Chick Fil-A bag that had succumbed to the inexorable pull of gravity and was on the tarmac right before the window.
Another car pulls through and she takes another look at the bag.
So when it was my turn to come abeam of the window, I shifted the Traverse a bit and jumped out to grab the bag figuring I’d toss it in the bin when I got home. I’m sure the people in the cars behind me were wondering what in the world I was on about!
Miss Trina had other ideas and thanked me for retrieving the bag and saving her coworker from having to take on a queue of cars piloted by hungry people ready for some Lord’s Bird and waffle fries!
Without even thinking, I replied “my pleasure”.
We had a bit of a jolly laugh that whilst I genuinely appreciated unbridled optimism when I see it in this world but I just didn’t really think that her arms were going to spontaneously grow about two meters so she could reach the bag from the window!
But wouldn’t you know it…a certain member of the “Eat Mor Chikin” crew had managed to sneak his way to the drive-through window and was standing there in the background as Miss Trina handed over the bag of the Lord’s Bird that would defeat the hypoglycaemia I was feeling as well as the massive cup of that amazing lemonade without ice.
He’d managed to find a way to be a part of the meal delivery after all.
Why that stubborn little … team member!!! 🙂
And the smile on his face was enough to rival the Cheshire Cat’s because he’d truly managed to surprise me in the end!
Between Alex’s little trick and Miss Trina’s laughing at what was admittedly a Dad’s joke on steroids, I’d say it’s smiles and high fives all round on that visit! Good on ya! 🙂
