The best laid plans of mice and men, indeed.

After spending about a hour coming up with a lovely Irish playlist for St Patrick’s Day for the games actually on that day, wouldn’t you know it that my usually wretched luck in spite of a bit of Irish heritage found the speakers were turned off on the Forest rink and by the time they were turned on, there really wasn’t much of the original set to be salvaged before it was time to drop the puck so I ended up winging it through the playlist.

Fortunately, the set was played as it was originally intended on the following Friday on the Wake rink where the speakers are rarely if ever turned off (yay!).

Now, some of you might have noticed there’s a wee bit of cheating and trickery in the game 1 playlist in that Dexy’s Midnight Runners is not an Irish band but rather an English one based in Birmingham. But when a band can convince it’s members to go through the hassle of officially changing their given names to Irish ones and the song sounds like it’d be at home in either Dublin or Belfast…then is it really cheating?

Especially when you’re talking about a holiday where the predominant symbol is known for being a wee bit fast and loose with the straight and narrow themselves… 😉
