They said that a progressive-guitar band would never work.
More than a few critics agreed but their album spent nine weeks at the top of the Billboard chart and ended the year as the best selling album overall, largely owing to their most popular single ever in “Heat of the Moment” topping out at #4 on the Billboard US Hot 100 chart.
When you look at who was in that band and the powerhouse bands of the 70s and 80s they came from, you have to wonder what those critics were smoking! 🙂
- Geoffrey Downes – Keyboards (from “Yes”)
- Steve Howe – Guitars (from “Yes”)
- John Wetton – Singer/Bass (from “King Crimson”)
- Carl Palmer – Drums (from “Emerson, Lake & Palmer”)
So tonight WFOX celebrates Asia’s reign at the top of the album chart on this day in 1982 with a selection of their best tracks! 🙂

Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Cold… 🙂
So during the warm-ups whilst we were tending to our duties in the scorer’s booth, a puck was shot at the plexiglas which threatened to have a very unfortunate effect upon perfectly clean underbritches. When I looked up and saw who it was and then had another puck shot at us for good measure, the idea for some retribution came to me in an instant.
During the intermissions of Game 1, that plan was put quickly into play (and another even more diabolical one was hatched thanks to Miss Kristina having an awesome idea but you’re going to have to wait for that bit of a surprise later in the season!).
You see, this player has mentioned in the past that they’re not really a fan of Michael McDonald and whilst I can certainly see where they are coming from given what I’ve seen of their preferred musical tastes, I actually happened to like the new sound of the Doobie Brothers when he took over as the lead singer.
So here are the tracks I laid down during each intermission and during the player line-up at centre ice.
Mind you, I didn’t even think of it at the time as I was switching between playlists to grab the Doobie Brothers tracks but the order of the track names is also more than a little humourous to me… 🙂
Mess with a nerd who has his hands on the turntables and some huge speakers at his command and an even longer memory?
Bring it on! 😉
