Sometimes you’ve got to be a bit creative when it comes to picking the theme of the night.

It’s not that I’m truly opposed to breaking out the Mystery Crate if I have to but if there is a theme to be had, I’m willing to go a little bit into the future to find it.

Such is the case with tonight’s first three tracks which came from Billy Joel’s ninth studio album “An Innocent Man” which was released on 08 Aug 1983 and these three (two of which were love letters to Christie Brinkley who he’d eventually marry and would still remain close with even after the divorce) were the top-10 tracks from that album.

I won’t blame you if you were singing along to more than a few of these tracks.

I’ve been to see Billy Joel in concert twice (once in Orlando and once at Lenovo Centre where he shared the stage with Sir Elton John and both of them had an incredible show that managed to not stomp all over each other’s greatness!) and I can tell you that there isn’t a song in his set that the audience isn’t singing along with him.

Who could truly resist their own personal duet with Billy Joel?

One of my favourite players in Ironclad requested this track and exposed the fact that the library at the time was completely sans Skynyrd which was very quickly rectified.

There’s an unofficial deal in place…whenever he shows up on the scoresheet, this song will be played…preferably at the break between periods where it gets a bit longer play on the speaker system than usual.

But that plan only works if I remember to cue up the song with about a minute to go so it’s ready to spin when the horn sounds.

I don’t think he minded getting an even longer play time as I was finishing up the night’s paperwork and packing the exceptionally heavy backpack of kit… 🙂
