When I saw “Weird” Al’s birthday was going to be on a double-header night in the Bendis division, there was no way I wasn’t going to take maximum advantage to highlight one of the best artists in live concert I’ve ever seen.

Imagine the scene on 11 Jun 1992…it’s hotter than hell and even more humid at Disney’s Pleasure Island and over 60,000 of us are crammed cheek-to-jowl on the western end of the island near the main stage.

Sardines wouldn’t have stood for the conditions we endured for the next three-and-a-half hours where you literally couldn’t move from your spot and it was instantly obvious who was into bathing and who wasn’t.

Sardines wouldn’t have appreciated the genius of “Weird” Al in performance for the “Off the Deep End” tour, either.

We were singing along with each and every hit of his for the entire show and it was genuinely one of the most amazing concerts and arguably the most brutal workout I’ve probably ever had in my life.

Not bad for a guy rocking an accordion and parodies, eh?

Tonight whilst filling out the paperwork, we did things a little bit off piste with Trevor Dalzell choosing the first track and one of the gents working at the rink who had noticed the theme picking the second one to make his swabbing of the decks round the benches a much more pleasant activity! 🙂
