From the “Rocking Some Lynyrd Skynyrd By Request!” Dept:
Just because I have my hands on the virtual turntables doesn't mean that we are above giving the citizenry what they want. We're democratic. In some ways. :)
Music has always been a big part of my life and sometimes the right song can evoke such powerful memories.
These are those stories! :)
Just because I have my hands on the virtual turntables doesn't mean that we are above giving the citizenry what they want. We're democratic. In some ways. :)
Some of the most fun I have whilst spinning the tunes for MCHL Ironclad is shamelessly abusing my authority over what gets played outside of the games. Take for instance the fun I had with the set for my brother Benjamin’s birthday… :)
The portable Bluetooth speaker is much louder than the rink speakers but a tiny little USB to 3.5mm adapter and a far better balanced sound is about a tonne less heavy and a much improved performance quality! :)
Law enforcement was wolf-packing I-40 west something fierce as I was schlepping Alex to work at the Garner Chick Fil-A. When he suggested a song from the Phil Collins playlist that was spinning at the time, I found an even better choice... ;)
May Supertramp's Rick Davies rest in peace knowing that he gave so much beautiful music to the world and many hours of me trying to hit those high notes in "Goodbye Stranger"! :)
A Camel in the scorer's booth...who would have imagined it? :)
It's not often you find the referees in the penalty box they normally consign the naughty players to but here you go... :)
Whilst his passing might have been overshadowed by Ozzy's, Chuck Mangione's influence on my musical tastes cannot be understated and that's why "Feels So Good" was blasting from the speaker during the Zamboni break!
On the day Ozzy Osbourne left us, that night would find me in the scorer's booth spinning the tunes for Ironclad. It may not have been the set I was intending that night but there was no way we weren't going to celebrate his music all night long...
Sometimes it's nice to be the one whose hands are on the turntables and volume controls as well as the scoreboard prior to the first game's warmup session. There was no way the news of a couple of days ago wasn't going to find it's way into the set... :)
If there was anyone that was truly deserving of a happy ending for what she has given the world, it was Taylor Swift. And now she's finally repatriated the original masters of her first six albums giving her complete control over her music for the first time. It couldn't have happened to a better human being... :)
It looks like I'm going to be spinning tunes on a more consistent basis for the hockey beer league Nick's been serving as a referee. And if you'd asked me if I'd ever be serving up the mad notes when I was in IT, I'd have laughed out loud. Funny world, ain't it? ;)
Sometimes all it takes is a song to bring back memories of long ago. Boz Scaggs' "Lowdown" is one such tune for remembering a restaurant called "Tuesday's" in Cross Creek Mall!
I've noticed over the past few years that the surest sign of one's advancing years is that I've found myself much more aware of when the unwelcome news comes that artists that have been beloved companions through my years have passed on. I'm not going to sugarcoat it: this bit of unwelcome news was probably the worst gut punch I've gotten in quite a while. Gordon Lightfoot has passed away at the age of 84.…
Yesterday, I was going on about getting the Pfizer COVID-19 jab and a bit of the process I use to relax as it's being administered and realised there's another story in there to be told. Key to finding that moment of calm and Zen is having my mind playing a piece of music over and over in my mind so that it becomes relatively easy to tune out everything else that's going on around me.…
I just saw the unfortunate newsflash that Bill Withers just passed away in LA today. Most people will immediately think of “Lean on Me” which certainly was a signature tune that alone could make a career. But when I think of Bill Withers, I’m always going to think of “Just the Two of Us”…his duet with the amazing saxophonist Grover Washington Jr. If you love jazz and the saxophone, you can’t help but to love…
RIP Walter Becker of Steely Dan…one half of one of the most innovative songwriting duos I've ever known. https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/03/entertainment/walter-becker-obituary/index.html
