Nicholas had a request for his 17th birthday…bolgrács gulyás (literally “kettle goulash” in Magyar/Hungarian) owing to it originally being cooked in a cauldron over an open flame.

I’d never made it before so I was a little bit nervous about how it would turn out. I’d needn’t have worried…the gulyás with spaetzle had rave reviews not only from Nick and Katie but my neighbours (who just found out there is a baby grandson due in October…way to go Ashley and Eddie!) said I can make it for them any time they wish.

Speaking of my awesome neighbours, Miguel was kind enough to bring over some Puerto Rican “pinchos” which are the kebabs in the foreground. Those turned out to be an excellent appetizer and a timely one because gulyás is not exactly a speedy dish to make! It’s such a joy sharing our favourite culinary creations!

After dinner was finally done, it was time to spool up the DVR for “The Masked Singer” and get a little snuggle time with Katie on the couch.

All in all…a wonderful day! 🙂
