Nick meets an Angel…

A funny thing happened when I took my 2010 Traverse in for the 90K mile servicing at 95K miles…meet anirnisiaq qavvaq which in Inuktitut (the language of the Inuit) literally means angel of the blue ice.

Qavvaq ice is very old ice (usually at least three years old or more) which is clear or if it has any color at all tends to be close to this shade of blue.

The name was easy to come by considering that her predecessor was named tiriganiaq which is Inuktitut for arctic fox and got that name because when the arctic fox is in its cross phase in Spring and Fall, they are usually a very striking silver color.

The Chevrolet dealer had been putting on a full-court press to get my 2010 for their used lot and ended up putting $10K of their money into the deal which made the only difficult choice between going for the striking red or my favorite blue. Yeah, that wasn’t so hard either… 🙂

Now I’ve got the Traverse I would have gotten four years ago had the Ford Escape I was driving not blown up in their parking lot and have 100K miles to play with. But the situational awareness features that she has onboard is well worth the price of admission…the backup camera is projected on a much larger screen rather than using the mirror and she has sensors all round to detect when other cars are too close or you’re deviating from your lane of travel.

Other nice features are the dual moon roof (the front one is the one that opens), the built-in DVD system (only for long-haul trips!), a plethora of USB ports and a built-in inverter and most importantly tri-zone climate controls so that the usual co-pilot who prefers setting the temperature to broil won’t roast the pilot who prefers to keep very cool. 😉
