Dick Clark’s on the TV behind me, Grandpa’s piano and a Cuba Libre is in front of me…

Hou’oli makahiki hou!

Happy New Years 2017…we can’t see the back of 2016 soon enough if you ask me!

  1. (My cousin Becky Lewis Claborn mentioned she remembered seeing that piano in Grandpa’s house in Hutsonville IL)

From what I remember of the piano in that house, it certainly didn’t have all of the somewhat random stuff on top of it…various craft projects from the kids and others, a few pictures, two small photo albums with my favourite shots from NYC, a fox, and an eagle from Dad’s house in Port Orange guarding a pecan-shaped birdhouse that is way too nice to hang outdoors!

But it still sounds just like I remember it…only I’m nowhere near the pianist Grandpa was. A bit of “Auld Lang Syne”, a bit more of a piece I’ve been composing for the last 20 years or so, and then I ended up dragging out one of the flutes to try my hand at “Toss the Feathers” by The Corrs (yeah, that went well…managed to get the melody by ear but their rendition is way too fast for fingers that are way out of practice!).

But the nice thing is that having some time at the piano and flute is still one of the most relaxing things I can do!
