The Tories are set to win a massive majority in the general election but for me, the most interesting contest is the one in Bolsover which has been held by the “Beast of Bolsover” Dennis Skinner of the Labour Party since 1970.
Skinner is famous for heckling Black Rod when they come into the Commons to summon them to attend Her Majesty in the House of Lords for the State Opening of Parliament.
Tory frontbenchers weren’t immune from his caustic wit as former PM “Dodgy Dave” Cameron found out which saw Skinner named by the Speaker and booted out of the chamber for accusing Cameron of dishonesty and refusing to withdraw that insult when asked to by now retired Speaker John Bercow.
If Skinner survives, he’s set to become the Father of the House as the MP with the longest continuous service in the Commons.
But Aunty Beeb has the exit polling saying it’s a 94% chance his northeast constituency will be flipped to the Conservatives.
