There are some lessons one can learn from spending any amount of time on a nuclear submarine that definitely apply to social distancing and navigating tight confined spaces. This is especially critical on an attack submarine (think Los Angeles class) which are much smaller than the missile submarines (“boomers” like the Ohio or Virginia class boats).

One of the most critical is that unless you need to be somewhere quickly, you hug the walls or move as quickly possible on the ladders!

You most certainly don’t sit right in the middle of the corridor and block anyone from getting past, especially when you hear things like “make a hole” or “DOWN LADDER”! Those that do usually find themselves on their heiney and then facing a few pissed off officers about to make their life miserable.

By and large, most of the people seem to be getting the hang of navigating the aisles of the grocery stores without unnecessarily impeding other people’s progress.

Unfortunately, there are still those individuals who will park their trolley right in the middle of the aisle and then proceed to block whatever space is left with their body (or worse, their completely unnecessary entourage!) whilst they spend an inordinate amount of time selecting the item.

What makes dealing with these people such a joy is how utterly oblivious to this they are…GRRRRR!!! 🙁
