All the best to Romain Grosjean who had more than a few angels with him whose survival cell ended up piercing the safety barriers in a massive fiery crash in Bahrain.

That he managed to be conscious enough to extricate himself from the front half of the car that detached from the rear of the car in a head-on crash well over 100mph was nothing short of a miracle.

Massive props to the medical car crew that chase after the standing start who were on scene immediately with fire extinguishers and the cockpit halo that made sure that Grosjean had a much better result than poor Jules Bianchi.

He walked away with some minor burns and suspected broken ribs. When you watch the replays and it brings to mind Senna and Bianchi (minus the fireball) and you see the driver walk away…yeah, more than a few angels were hanging about Sakhir today.

Get mended quickly Romain! 🙂

Craziest thing I have ever seen in a race – to be engulfed in flames like that and be able to pull himself out.

That he was conscious after literally going completely thorough the barrier to the other side and had the presence of mind to undo the belts and get out within 18s of the impact is mind-blowing to say the least.

Even though the barrier isn’t supposed to fail like that…I’m thinking the survival cell going completely through it with the halo taking a lot of the force was a blessing. It separated him from the engine and even with the conflagration nearby, having the engine even closer than it was would have likely been much worse.
