A Taste of St Louis

A Taste of St Louis

Owing to the late check-in, I wasn’t particularly interested in the breakfast buffet at the hotel. So as I’m loading the Traverse at 1000 to start heading east, I noticed that breakfast wasn’t going to be a problem.

Across the car park was a place called “Lion’s Choice”.

I remember Hannah mentioning on Facebook things she missed about St Louis whilst she was at Emerson College in Boston and this one ranked pretty high on that list.

It’s main claim to fame is roast beef and indeed they started about three years after Arby’s. And that’s where that comparison ends because in terms of seasoning and juiciness…Lion’s Choice has them beat hands down. It is honestly the best tasting roast beef sandwich I’ve ever had in my life and now I can understand why she misses it so much when she’s away (and why apparently she’s there with her boyfriend at least once a week when she’s home!).

So after finishing the breakfast of champions, it was time to head east…except that the fastest way toward the next waypoint was actually a wee bit west. And of course when I saw the Arch and the skyline…I knew I had to go even further west over the Musial Bridge (which bears a striking resemblance to the Cylon Resurrection Ship from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica) and get some off-the-cuff shots.

Two passes through downtown later it was time to come back east for the first waypoint of the day’s journey on the opposite side of Illinois.
