Morning came round soon enough but fortunately we were able to sleep in a little bit and that actually turned out to be advantageous as Mom got some bonus reunion time with a couple of her classmates that had booked the same hotel we’d unintentionally ended up at in Robinson.
The glorious sunlight also revealed the Heath bar plant (now owned by Hershey) was literally across the street from where we stayed. Sadly, the $1 garbage bags full of broken Heath bars deal hasn’t existed since the 1970s and I really wasn’t keen on trying to fight the traffic in downtown Robinson that was going to be home to a parade later in the day.
Maybe that can be an incentive for a future trip!
After a quick breakfast, we headed back to the rooms to clear our our stuff and load it into the hire car when I noticed a curious sign at the door to our building. I can honestly say I’ve never heard of a garage sale being hosted at a hotel before!
Our goal for the day was a little more time in Hutsonville before starting our journey back to the east.
We figured we’d visit the cafe one more time and we needed to make tracks quickly as they had reduced hours and only a breakfast/brunch service on Saturdays due to staffing availability.
And that’s where I made a huge mistake where I should have heeded the warning by the lovely lady. I ended up choosing some hash browns and two of the pecan praline pancakes thinking that even though I’d had a bacon fix in Robinson a while ago, not having anything last night should mean that two pancakes would probably be fine. The lady truly tried her best to dissuade me so this mistake was all mine.
Oh, not the pancakes themselves…they were absolutely delicious and the pecan praline topping was truly divine.
But when she said the pancakes were the size of their plates, I should have thought about just how large their plates are!
The other thing that needed to be considered is that these are not the pancakes we’re used to in the South which are rather light and airy which is why we can go to the IHOP and not think twice about the height of the stack.
Hoo boy…these pancakes are the exact opposite and seemed to be designed for maximum density.
Yeah…that’s why that even though as hungry as I was (or thought I was), those pancakes absolutely defeated me and at least 2/3rds of them went into a takeaway container.
I was not looking forward to admitting to Meghann that I’d been defeated by a pair of pancakes as she’d also warned me about them (and indeed, she did laugh quite heartily at my folly when we’d meet up the following afternoon).
Now that we were absolutely stuffed, it was time to continue our wandering round Hutsonville.
