Starting off the journey of a couple of thousand miles with a nice lunch at the definitive Lexington-style BBQ joint...Lexington BBQ #1.

First leg takes us through the mountains via Black Mountain, Asheville, Knoxville, and finally northeast of Chattanooga in Ooltewah TN.

Heading to Lookout Mountain near downtown Chattanooga via the TVA's Chickamauga Dam and then south past Signal Mountain.

Downtown Chattanooga viewed from Point Park at the summit of Mt Lookout at 2,000' MSL.

The Magical Cousins Mystery Tour takes us from Chattanooga into Illinois via Nashville. Along the way, will chat with multiple cousins and hang out with my cousin Scott who lives just east of St Louis!

Starting out at cousin Hannah's favourite St Louis roast beef eatery that just happened to be in front of the hotel, we slide a little west to enjoy downtown and the Arch before heading east!

Stopping by my mother and father's old home town by the Wabash River...Hutsonville IL! And it's amazing how much the place has changed in the past 40 years since I was here last...and how much it hasn't! :)

Getting back to the I-70 motorway takes us past Terre Haute IN and a place that doesn't really encourage one to hang about! ;)

Putting the foot down along I-70 and passing through one of the speed capitals of the world...Indianapolis IN! Eventual destination for the evening is Polaris just north of Columbus OH!

Plenty of wild turkeys to be found at Highbanks Metro Park north of Columbus OH...and a surprisingly accurate turkey call attracts quite the parade of hens up the hill!

Admiring a Lamborghini Aventador...and then being splashed by same supercar not long after! :)

Some views of downtown Columbus OH before continuing the Magical Cousins Mystery Tour at Pierogi Mountain.

Couldn't make a good deal on a Nikon F4 film camera so instead of heading toward Gatlinburg, we head east to take advantage of Suzette's suggestion of the best place to view downtown Pittsburgh!

Best place to view the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers to create the mighty Ohio river is Grandview Av on Mt Washington just south of downtown Pittsburgh!

Making a quick run down the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Springfield VA and finding out once more just how much the I-495 Beltway ring road round Washington DC sucks at pretty much any hour.

Despite some bother with a pre-purchased Metro pass and trying to use the card on the phone, we did manage to get to the one place I didn't really have a lot of time to properly see...the Lincoln Memorial.

This is the memorial I had never seen before and the one that brought me to tears today as a new and very intensely personal connection is formed.

The Ellipse is still a car park, the White House still looks like a fortress under siege but the mood permeating the area is a total 180 from last August in a good way!

Riding the train back to the hotel to do some picture sifting. Or so I thought after two "Bill and Ted" movies... :)

If I'm in the area, there will be one place I will always find a way to visit. This visit with Dad had the happy bonus of two funerals on either side of making it to section 76! And afterward, a new record of 03:47 is set from Arlington to my garage in spite of two big traffic jams! :)

Quick run to a stormy Brunswick County to retrieve Katie and Alex for school.
