It feels kind of weird going through the Chick Fil-A bereft of free bird thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes home win promotion (which I wholeheartedly hope stays in play this coming season!).

But after a chilly trip to the Knightdale YMCA pool with Katie and Alex and Katie actually having some free bird on her app today, we are visiting the Knightdale location that inspired the Chick Fil-Audits series of posts with a 37 minute wait in the drive-through queue.

Will this be another instance of the drive-through gone mad?

Let’s go review, shall we?

  • 1351 – Mobile order placed near Knightdale YMCA pool with an estimated trip time of 10 minutes which is certainly believable given that US-64 Business is stoplight central!
  • 1356 – Arrived at the intersection of the main entrance off US-64 four minutes ahead of schedule. A quick peek to the right just before the stoplight shows a truly shocking site…the queue is pretty much nonexistent all the way to the end of the covered area closest to US-64 and their order boards.
  • 1357 – We’re in what’s passing for the conga line in the inboard lane stopped about halfway through the covered part of the queue. We could have gone all the way to the end but the order taker met us halfway.
  • 1358 – Miss Reagan is absolutely perfect in greeting and confirming the multiple orders in the Traverse. Do keep that in mind…
  • 1359 – A quick bypass of the receipt printer guy brings us right to the choke-point before the final turn into the run to the window. And here is the only place we really sit for any appreciable amount of time.
  • 1402 – Turn to window complete. Slightly more wait but nothing really out of line…no one ahead of us seems to be adding any confusion or delay as sometimes may happen.
  • 1404 – The only slight bobble of the afternoon is a bit of confusion on the part of the people at the window. Miss Reagan was told there were two separate orders in the same vehicle which was reiterated to the gent who brought my order but was a bit slow on the “actually hand it to me” part of the transaction. The girl just inside the door didn’t seem to get the memo until I reminded her of Katie’s order but at least she was quicker at actually handing it over!

Seven minutes through the queue…shockingly good for that time of day and almost certainly a record for this location.

Let’s see how they stacked up!

  • Initial greeting: Miss Reagan the order taker was perfect!
  • Order correctness: spot on for the full point.
  • Waffle fries: the fries were decently hot and tasty with slightly more salt than I prefer but well below Salt Succubus heart disease inducing levels…full point.
  • Sandwich: Sandwich was nice sized and properly breaded…full point! 🙂

Knightdale scores full marks of 4 possible points for the best outing I’ve ever had at that location and still within sniffing distance of the lunch rush, no less! 🙂
