Yesterday, I was musing what to do with an unsolicited package from Verizon addressed to a completely different person after someone came calling at my door enquiring about the package.
I ended up settling on taking the package to the Verizon store and seeing if they’d take custody of it and handle it and if that didn’t work, I figured I’d head off to the cop shoppe and let the rozzers have the note and package.
After arriving in the store and having a couple of the workers come off as somewhat indifferent and then not wanting to find someone above their pay grade due to the managers being in some hours long meeting, I was genuinely questioning my sanity for even bothering.
Fortunately, Kyle quickly came round and we had a lovely conversation where I laid out the circumstances of the package coming into my possession as well as my scammer Spidey Sense(tm) screaming at the highest levels and the options for dealing with the package.
After hearing the story, he agreed with my initial instincts that what I was asking of them was above the pay grade of the agents in the store and that it was the better move to insist that he attend to it directly so I wouldn’t have to repeat the story multiple times.
He was able to confirm without breaking confidentiality that the guy who showed up on Sunday might well be on the up-and-up after all as there was an internet account under that name in a different city.
I think the package is going to be returned to the distribution centre. I hope they do reach out to the person to let them know that and to have them re-order what we had suspected was FiOS kit (which I’d have no use for here…anyone want a decently powerful DOCSIS cable modem?) and hopefully this time pick the correct address for shipping.
I was just happy to be rid of the package in time to get some lunch and pick up Alex in that order… 🙂
