Today’s phrase in Hungarian is inspired by one of my lovely neighbours who was truly shocked to find their idea of my age was decidedly less than what they thought it was to the tune of about 15 years… 😉
Hogy lehet ötven éves?!? (How can you be fifty years old?!?)
That has to be a first for me! It reminded me of when I was at university at UCF many eons ago…I used to stop at “Ray’s Knight Out Pub” on Alafaya for the best burger and fries in the area. Most of the time, I would do takeaway to head back to my flat to munch and study.
One day, I surprised the waitress who was very used to my normal order by staying at the pub with the burger and a pint of Guinness. She was shocked I ordered anything to drink as I never had before.
When I pointed out that I had just turned 21 the day before, she was even more gobsmacked. So I asked her how old she thought I was and she said 35!
I could have had a beer or ale with my burger for the previous three years and she would never have questioned it! Darn it…that’d have been handy to know!
She and I would laugh about it until the day I graduated about a year later. Sadly, the Pub is long since gone but I will never forget the biggest and best burger in East Orlando and Lucy who was the one of the kindest and best waitresses I’ve ever known. 🙂
