Prior to his mega success with Cream and then a prolific solo career, it would be easy to overlook Eric Clapton’s time with The Yardbirds which ended on this date in 1965 after the release of their first top-ten single “For Your Love”.

He had felt that this track was a more of a contemporary pop sound (which is the polite way of saying he felt the band had “sold out”) rather than the blues sound they had been performing since their inception.

He’d pass through a couple of other bands (most notably “Cream” and “Derek and the Dominoes”) before settling into a very prolific solo career so it seems he wasn’t terribly bothered by leaving The Yardbirds.

Now you might notice that there’s something in the playlist that does not belong with the others. That might have been the result of the name of Michael McDonald being mentioned. Just sayin’… 😉
