My apologies for getting to this a bit later than usual (as I try to have the song list posted within a day or so) but when your younger son makes it quite clear that it was well past time that I get with the 2010s and finally watch the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies with him…well, there are priorities and then then are command performances and that one was very much the latter! 🙂
I’ll have to say I found the movies delightful even though I’d only known of three of the characters in passing and whoever picked the songs in the soundtrack was very definitely onto something quite wonderful! Of course, it helps when most of the songs are ones that not only did I recognise but I didn’t feel at all ashamed to be singing along with Alex!
Sir Tedrow Crosses the Rainbow Bridge
“There are no good-byes. Wherever you’ll be, you’ll be in my heart.”
Mahatma Gandhi
Unfortunately, yesterday there was a bit of sad news from the St Louis area where my cousin Scott’s elder statesman amongst the canine contingent in his palace dedicated to all things rock-and-roll had crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned Scott a few times since I’d started this gig…not only is he one of the neatest people I’ve ever known, he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of music and a collection of vinyl in his rock-and-roll man cave that were he to put a 100 kW transmitter in his backyard, he’d give KSHE (the oldest rock station in the world!) a run for their money! 😉
That it happened on Scott’s birthday was an even bigger gut punch but Sir Tedrow had a very long life of 14 good years and is certainly bouncing about the place beyond the bridge that we will all eventually know at some point.
When I saw that post, I knew the track I was loading right then and there and it’s the one that led off this special set of Sir Elton that started the night’s musical selections.
The advantage to that first track is that it goes for about 12 minutes which gives plenty of time to schlep the Lunara and Solara Cups and attendant swag from the cupboard on the Wake rink before having to worry about switching… 🙂
Rest well, Sir Tedrow!

Game 1 Warm-Ups
One nice thing about showing up the rink early for “extra duties as assigned” and a rink just quietly waiting there for us is the ability to go long in the first set.
Well, you didn’t have to tell me twice to take maximum advantage in working our way to an obvious nod to the other Cup winners in the Raleigh area! 🙂

Zamboni and Game 2 Warm-Ups
Well, the Lunara Cup championship certainly lived up to the hype of it being the best game of the season!
It ended with the Gargoyles and Phoenix ending regulation play level at 5 goals apiece with Gargoyles scoring a late goal to send the game to some bonus hockey where they’d win the Lunara Cup with a 2-1 shootout victory.
And now, let’s clean the ice to get to the bronze medal game where the Solara Cup will be awarded… 🙂

Post-Game
This game was quite the tight-checking affair with all of the scoring happening in the first period as Hydras claimed the Solara Cup by downing the Wendigos with a 2-nil shutout despite being outshot 32-16 making the game far more thrilling than the final score might indicate!
And so we close Season XIII with one of my favourite tracks from the Zamboni playlist… 🙂
See you on Tuesday for Season XIV!
