Every now and then, being the base house number for the entire street brings it’s little tidbits of amusement when there’s packages in the delivery van that have a return address that didn’t bother to list a house number.

This particular one had quite the journey from when it was dropped off at the Creedmoor Post Office who apparently couldn’t be bothered to take five seconds to note that the return address didn’t have a number associated with it and stop this package’s ill-fated journey before it consumed a lot of time and resources in a two-week journey of futility.
But I think my favourite part is at the end of the tracking which apparently thinks the next step after delivering a package never intended for my house in Raleigh is to say it was delivered in or at a mailbox in Portland, Oregon!
Yeah, *THAT* Portland that’s clear across the North American continent!

And then there’s yet another clue for the clueless carrier staring at them from the post box and that package clearly didn’t meet the addressing that is appropriate for this house but that would require employing one of Dad’s favourite concepts that he’d remind me of incessantly of “paying attention to detail”!

Sometimes I’m able to find the house that the package or mail was truly intended and do the carrier’s job for them but no one goes by that name on our street so it’s time to play everyone’s favourite game of “what’s in the parcel from FreeStuff.com”?
It has a fabric feel to it so I suspect it might be some sort of item of clothing that’s probably orders of magnitude smaller than is necessary for my panoramic heiney!
Survey says… 😉

I suspect there’s a cargo pants fitting in Alex’s future but I suspect even these may be a bit small for him now that he’s requisitioned a bit more of a booty than he’s normally rocked in the past… 🙂

I’ll admit that I’m being more than a little facetious here but there is a cautionary tale when unsolicited goods turn up…there is a scam called “brushing” where they’ll send you something in the post you never asked for just to get the delivery confirmation and use that to post reviews of their product to pump up their sales volume using your name where the tracking is used to refute charges of “astroturfing”.
I have no idea how they make money on the scheme as these people just chucked at least $19.05 of postage in the bin for a round trip to Zone 8 as well as whatever the pants are worth if that’s what they’re really on about.
If it’s happening on a regular basis and you don’t happen to live at the base address for your street, there may be more sinister plans afoot and you should be very careful about trying to contact the original sender as they’ve already got your details and who knows what they might do.
On the one hand, I’d like to think it was just a case of a shipper being lazy but I’m having a hard time imagining why anyone who’d drop off a package in Creedmoor well north and west of here feels the need to use my street as a return address in case the delivery to the real intended recipient address in Portland doesn’t actually happen as in this case.
But as it was almost five years ago since the last time I got one of these weird parcels, I’m not particularly worried but will be if I start getting these poorly addressed parcels more frequently.
