If you find maths a bit of a struggle to figure out how to calculate inflation over that long period, Senators Tillis and Burr of North Carolina have made it much easier for you with their vote to confirm Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education despite having absolutely zero qualifications or any actual experience with public schools.

Senator Tillis is joint-second on her bribe list to the tune of $72,900 and Senator Burr joint-ninth on $43,200.

And whilst we’re on the subject, Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina who is currently bloviating on CSPAN2 about how super-duper awesome the new Secretary of Education is an hour and a half after the Veep put her over the top is number 7 on that list of shame at $49,200. Senator Scott…I realise the Senate is the preeminent forum for talking your fool head off but please take the opportunity to shut your mouth and be thought the fool rather than conclusively prove just how little of a clue about this issue you have!

Anywho…those are the going rates for a job that used to be done with thirty pieces of silver. And people said modern maths was hard… 🙂
