So yesterday we went to cinema and saw “Wonder” and to a person we loved it.

It should be required viewing for those fortunate enough to have kids who aren’t medical frequent flyers or have special needs. Maybe it might help you understand at least a tiny bit why there are times we might not smile as much or want to howl at the moon in sheer frustration.

How we’d do anything to take away what afflicts our kid and treasure every moment they make you laugh or give you a hug and tell you they love you.

And for those who are lucky enough to have a special kid or kids…it’s even more imperative to see this movie because there’s at least one character you will identify with when you’re facing yet another night in hospital. That no matter how frustrating or intolerable the situation may seem to be…there’s someone who has it much worse.

Jimmy V was right…never give up. Never ever give up!

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that when you’re hauling ass to Durham with the kid who never complains about pain who is feeling dizzy and nauseous. When you’re sitting in an ER or cafeteria until the wee hours wondering what lovely news will come your way or new inventive way for that kid to do things the hard way.

And then they will smile and hug you and tell you that they love you. And for that all to brief moment…all is well in the world.

Alex has forgotten more about the concept of courage than I will ever hope to know. His smile and laugh is enough to be willing to crawl across broken glass to experience again.

Here’s hoping he gets mended soon…God knows we could use a smile and laugh from the one person I know who does it better than anyone else. 🙂

The plain speaking is that Alex can’t help what afflicts him or the difficulty of his journey. But we can change how we view him and his journey. Thank you Mr Tushman!
