From the “The Job Is Never Truly Done” Dept:

Today I managed to catch Lord and Lady Robin bringing some tasty morsels of worms and bugs for their four very hungry chicks! This seems to be a near constant job taken in shifts which is something I’m sure we can all relate to.

This is the first day I’ve really been able to catch the baby birds stretching their heads above the top of the nest and it was nice seeing all four eggs hatched properly which wasn’t so obvious from the last update.

It doesn’t really matter if there’s nothing available for feeding…if the Lord or Lady are near the nest, they will be joined by four beaks opened about as far as physically possible.

Fortunately, at least the Lord and Lady were willing to play as I stationed myself right next to the spigot next to the garage door about 5m away from the nest with the D810 and 200-500mm f/5.6 super-telephoto lens pegged on the 500mm line. I’m rather happy with the result and it was nice being able to snap away without being taught unfortunate phrases in the robin’s native language!

I have to say they’ve done wonders for helping me keep from going stark staring mental during this pandemic…with all of the news broadcasts fixating upon the infections and deaths from COVID-19, it was actually nice to see four beautiful new lives come into this world that are apparently thriving quite nicely thanks to their ever-attentive parents. Nature rather does have a way of carrying on well enough in spite of human folly and foolishness. I’d say it’s been well worth it to trade porch time for these birds that are much cheaper and far more effective than any therapy would have ever been! 🙂
