A Bit of a Scare and a Decision to Make…

After lunch, it was time to head out again on the journey but the first stop was to visit a camera store in the western end of downtown Columbus. He had a lovely Nikon F4 available but sadly would not budge on the price which was a bit more than I wished to spend and so that was pretty much that for shooting film on this trip which was one of the things I was really intending to do.

This is where I had to take a decision as to where to go next. Had that F4 come out the store with me, the next stop would have been Gatlinburg TN and the day after that probably fooling round Murphy and then coming back toward the northeast via I-26/I-81.

As it was, now that film was out of play, it was Suzette who actually gave me the idea for the next waypoint. She was talking about the view of downtown Pittsburgh from Mt Washington where you can see the confluence of the three rivers that made that city the powerhouse it is today and I figured I had to see that for myself.

As I’m working my way back onto I-70 for a quick run to a hotel near the Pittsburgh airport in a place called Moon Township, I definitely got quite a scare right near the massive Ohio State stadium as I’m making a left turn on a protected green arrow only to see someone coming at me at full speed with their phone in their hand.

I jammed the accelerator to the floor and got most of the turn completed as they finally realised they were about to have an imminent collision and missed my right quarter panel by a matter of inches.

I truly understood what the concept of “many poos threatening to leave my anus explosively” meant in that moment. I’m honestly shocked that I didn’t need to find somewhere to clean up a bit…after a few minutes to calm down, I was back on my way and fortunately the rest of the stint was uneventful.

One thing that I did notice was that the bridges were generally of a similar design in the more hilly/mountainous terrain. They rather reminded me of wide-legged sawhorses…
