From the “MCHL Season XIII – Girl Power!” Dept:

In this era of serious musical girl power where Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter are regularly owning the top spots on the charts along with their colleagues of the feminine persuasion, one can easily forget that it wasn’t so easy for the ladies to hit the top of the charts back in the 1990s and earlier unless they were truly a superstar.

That brings us to the week ending 26 May 1990 which saw the top five slots Billboard Hot 100 singles chart owned by five different female acts headlined by Madonna with “Vogue” at number 1.

This was the first time that had ever happened in the history of the Billboard singles chart.

It’s not the first time that all five top slots were occupied by female singers…the one previous time was the week ending 30 Jun 1979 where Donna Summer had two songs in the top five.

So in true countdown fashion, we’re going to pay homage to these two times the singles charts truly were a woman’s world in tonight’s girl power theme! 🙂

Pre-Zamboni Bonus Tracks!

A happy bonus was finding an empty rink and you know what that means…bonus tracks before I’m getting into the theme!

The first one was just long enough for me to get to the cupboard way over on the other side of the Wake rink across the building… 🙂

I’m Breathless

Post-Game

I was planning on re-running “Inca Boogie” as I finished up the score sheet paperwork and sent it off via text message along with the two sign-up sheets and calling it a night.

A cutie of a young woman and her colleague that work at the rink and were tasked with mopping the bench areas had other ideas.

She was wanting a song that was “hype” that she could sing to but didn’t seem to notice that I’m significantly older than she is and I’m unlikely to have a whole lot of modern tracks to fit the bill.

We eventually settled on some Bruno Mars tracks to her delight and she did actually sing a little according to her co-worker but all attempts to get the microphone sitting next to the mixer in the scorer’s booth to function was unsuccessful.

After my Gen-Z friends went off elsewhere in search of things to tidy, I couldn’t resist that Boz Scaggs track *I* love to sing… 🙂
