From the “MCHL Season XIII – Rumour Has It!” Dept:

When one thinks of artists throwing all sorts of shade in their latest feuds and drama, one naturally thinks of Taylor Swift’s famously Zaprudered lyrics decoding which of her love interests was the subject of the song or the customary nastiness between hip-hop and rap artists through the years such as Kendrick Lamar and Drake (for the record, I have no idea who they are or what it was all about but it was in the tabloids not too long ago prior to a Superb Owl).

For old people like me, it’s hard not to love the famous amount of shade offered up by Carly Simon in “You’re So Vain” with quite a list of men offered up as the subject but as far as I know, she’s only confirmed Warren Beatty as the inspiration for the second verse and that the true subject was a composite of three people with James Taylor (her ex-husband but Simon has denied he was the subject of the song), David Bowie, David Cassidy, and Cat Stevens being rumoured to be amongst the possibilities.

But their feuds and drama seem rather tame compared to what was going on the scenes whilst Fleetwood Mac was recording “Rumours” in 1976.

Drugs, sex, rock and roll…and plenty of it!

During the recording sessions, members of the band were breaking up with each other and in the throes of tossing shade in the lyrics on an epic scale that would make a modern drama queen blush that it was a miracle that the band could carry on through the decades.

They’ve soldiered on in various configurations even with the occasional departures through the years of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, and Christine McVie (who would be honoured with a lifetime achievement Ivor Novello award in 2014 on this day) though it looks like Buckingham leaving again in 2017 and Christine McVie’s passing in 2022 may well be the final curtain on such an accomplished and turbulent band.

And through all of their music achievements, none stands out quite like the the consensus album of the year (Billboard, Cash Box, and Record World) and winner of the 1978 Grammy for album of the year that ruled the Billboard Top 200 charts for 31 weeks (though not consecutively).

This is “Rumours”…enjoy! 🙂

Game 1 Warm-Ups

The first set was rather abbreviated as there was a delay in killing the rink’s feed to the speakers so that I can start spinning some tunes. But that’s OK…we’ve got a bonus pickup game tonight and we are going to make it through the entire “Rumours” album though not quite in order to have the more energetic songs playing during the actual warm-ups! 🙂

Michael was already cued for the handshake line but we’re going to finish off “Rumours” and then move on to some more hints of behind-the-scenes drama courtesy of Fleetwood Mac’s “Behind the Mask” album. 🙂
