The first song in tonight’s theme was one of the earliest suggestions I received when I started playing the music for the Ironclad league and came from my cousin Scott who lives near St Louis and has such an encyclopaedic knowledge of music that I genuinely am in awe of his insights and breadth of knowledge.

The reason why he suggested “Boat Drinks” for a hockey beer league was readily apparent when I listened a bit closer to the lyrics… 🙂

I’ll confess that track wasn’t one that I had really listened to often but when I cued it up in The Nerdery…yeah, the awe and feeling like an enthusiastic amateur compared to someone who could probably drive KSHE by memory was certainly there! 🙂

That he’s probably the biggest Parrothead I’ve ever known in my life who decorates his patio and back yard with an extremely accurate reproduction of the Conch Republic at the extreme end of America’s southernmost city that he’s very familiar with is rather ironic considering that tonight’s theme is all about the best ambassador for the Conch Republic that ever lived (or indeed likely ever will).

Jimmy Buffett left us on this date in 2023 and life just ain’t the same without him.

His observations of the laid back life of Margaritaville and the culture of the Florida Keys was truly second-to-none.
