When I saw the following factoid, I knew instantly who was going to be featured in tonight’s theme:
“On this date two years ago today, this artist became the first female artist to chart a number one album in five consecutive decades!”
I’m sure that your mind was thinking that the lady was with us in the 1980s and wildly successful and almost certainly the first thought would have been of the OG Material Girl…Madonna!
And you’d have been just as wrong as I was with that first guess!
The irony is that the “Princess of Pop” has been constantly compared to Madonna through the years for her versatility and willingness to adapt to the times but this will be a record that Kylie will hold onto for a while because Madonna charted well in the 1990s but her three studio albums failed to make it to the number one spot.
And that my friends is why the pride of Australia Kylie Minogue is tonight’s featured artist! Fair dinkum! 🙂
