From the “This Is Why You Pack a Macro Lens!” Dept:

After getting a few pictures of Mistletoe with the sunflowers at Dix Park, it was time to unleash the D850 with the 105mm f/2.8 Micro-NIKKOR lens and get up close and personal with the sunflowers and the bees that were busily pollinating them!

This is the combination I wanted to be packing when we came out here a few days earlier for Julia’s birthday because the detail the lens is capable of capturing is nothing short of stunning.

There’s a few pictures where you can see the individual veins on the bee’s wings as well as the grains of pollen…these are photos that are just not possible without the extreme close-focus that a macro lens gives you.

You’ll definitely want one in your kit…even though you might not use it very often, it’s very nice to have when you just have to have that extreme detail right on top of your subject! 🙂
