It seems that *FINALLY* after several weeks, a head has rolled thanks to the ongoing Signalgate saga and it’s one that really needed to…now former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is being shuffled over to be ambassador to the UN which was originally Elise Stefanik’s post before Trump realised he needed to maintain a majority in the House to shove through his unpopular agenda.
Waltz was the one who actually added the Chief Editor of the Atlantic to a Signal chat that really needed to be happening on a secured system and without a journalist watching every word and emoji.
It’s no guarantee Waltz will make it through the Senate confirmation process and it’s certainly not going to be pleasant with all of his OPSEC misdeeds likely prominently figuring into the questions from the half of the room that would love to see his nomination go down in flames.
But as welcome news as this is because there is no way you keep that highly sensitive job after a glaring security lapse like that, there’s more than few that actually need to join him starting with our illustrious if occasionally tipsy Secretary of Defence who not only was spilling the beans on an operation happening in real time, he then decided to double and triple-down on OPSEC stupidity by having further Signal chats with equally sensitive info with his *WIFE* in the conversation!
At least Waltz had a security clearance (which if the administration was smart which we know they’re not!) which by all rights should have been revoked and Waltz sent packing straightaway rather than waiting before coming to the conclusion his position as NSA director was completely untenable.
There’s no way Hegseth’s wife had that kind of clearance to be in on that sort of intel!
It’s bad enough that Secretary of Defence Whiskeyleaks apparently can’t learn from his mistakes but the fact that the lives of our brave men and women in uniform are in a completely unqualified buffoon’s hands in the first place, much less after multiple major OPSEC failures truly beggars belief.
And let’s not stop there…Gabbard and Ratcliffe need to go as well for their part in this sorry mess and that they should have known better. They’ve at least had the wits to keep their heads down ever since the scandal first broke.
In an administration where people are actually professional in running the government and a Congress that actually had the genitalia to exercise actual oversight, these people would have been given the heave-ho long ago.
Anyone more junior to them wouldn’t have survived a howler of a mistake like that for 24 hours much less several weeks.
