Never was there a more appropriate song that led to tonight’s theme after spending a couple of hours dealing with the imbeciles supposedly offering “customer service” at the incumbent gas company.

These people decided to completely change the billing system but failed to actually disclose anywhere other than their website that I have no need to ever go to pay the bill on time and as part of the change, they completely changed the account number and payment lockbox address.

Of course, not knowing this was going down, I queued the gas bill payment through the credit union portal as usual and then was horrified to find that it’s apparently gone anywhere but where it needed to be to credit the account and square the books.

My favourite part was the supervisor daring me to take them to the NC Utilities Commission but given how egregious the deployment of a clearly untested billing system was and the lack of notice, the Utilities Commission might well be bored enough or in need of a win after being shown to be Duke Energy’s poodle these past couple of years that taking on a natural gas company whose heads seem to be irretrievably located up their own bums might well interest them.

Anywho…the title track to Green Day’s “American Idiot” album dropped on this date in 2004 ahead of the album’s release. The album would go on to win the Grammy for “Best Rock Album” in 2005 and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” would take home “Song of the Year” in 2006.

Such a timely album and track indeed… 🙂
