By now, I’m sure everyone has heard of President Trump’s novel idea of purchasing Greenland from the Kingdom of Denmark. And to be fair, this isn’t the first time this has come up as a serious proposal given Greenland’s strategic location.

But I’m thinking that too many people are being a bit hasty at writing off the latest proposal as more than a little bit daft or an April Fools’ joke that’s either way late or seriously premature.

Perhaps the United States and Denmark might come to an agreeable settlement of the issue with some tweaks and so I offer these ideas to Denmark’s Prime Minister to consider:

  1. The United States will facilitate and pay for the resettlement of all of the current residents of Greenland to either the US or Denmark or wherever they may wish to go. Alaska can certainly offer pretty equivalent accommodation including similar warming due to climate change for those residents of Greenland who really favour the tundra environment (for as long as it lasts)! 🙂
  2. Once the current residents have left, the United States will relocate the vast majority of it’s Executive Branch to Thule AFB so that they may have a peaceful environment in which to do their work. A small caretaker executive of lower-level technocrats will remain in Washington to govern the country whilst the rest are away.
  3. The United States will provide for a coastal and aerial quarantine of Greenland to ensure the peace and tranquility of Greenland is not disturbed. Also, communications to Greenland will be carefully controlled to ensure that the new residents of Greenland only receive news and information they will find beneficial that is not at all fake.

I’m sure the benefits of this scheme are more than obvious to both governments and the people they serve as well as the enormous advantages to be realised by the rest of the world.

I do hope both sides will give these ideas the due consideration they deserve! 🙂
