You never know what you'll see when you're in the yard picking up sticks after the recent high winds that accompanied an arctic blast of cold air. In this case, it was a red-shouldered hawk circling over the woods behind the house.Luckily the 28-300mm lens was on the D7000 and I had about a second to focus and shoot on a very fast moving target. I'm pretty pleased with the result... :)
My sister entered these photos from NYC into the Cumberland County Fair and apparently they impressed the judges enough to win. To say it was a surprise is a grand understatement!
There were a few minutes to kill before making my way round the Conga Line to the boarding area, there was a camera in the Traverse, and a nice hill with a beautiful vantage point for taking pictures of the buildings downtown. I'm so there...

As a result, most of today was spent being a bit more subterranean and wandering about on the subway with occasional forays to the…
After doing the lap around Manhattan, the next point of interest was Rockefeller Centre, particularly the observation deck dubbed the "Top of the Rock". The observation deck on the 70th floor allows a full 360-degree view round the building that is just plain stunning. If you look carefully, you'll be able to catch planes landing and departing from LaGuardia (LGA) and John F Kennedy (JFK) airports. My favourite views are of Central Park and the…
