Today would have been Dad's 81st birthday...a day he shared with Dr Martin Luther King Jr. How about a fun journey to see what other notable birthdays and events occurred on the 15th of January?

The request lines are open...Nicholas is wanting an Evanescence vibe and I was already fiddling with some track ideas that scream "girl power". Well, one good idea deserves another... :)
I genuinely couldn't believe that there wasn't a single Grateful Dead track in the library when it came time to pay tribute to the passing of Bobby Weir. This was rectified immediately... :)
Whether it's radio or playing a set as a live DJ...special requests are often what really makes the night for us! We may not be able to fulfill it immediately but rest assured that unless the song is truly hopeless, you'll be hearing it over the speakers soon enough! :)
The MLK Jr playlist looked a bit light and I was wanting some more options to play with...what I didn't plan on was just how much bigger that playlist got! :)
Playing with some ideas for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr holiday...
This post is the starting point for the playlists for Season XII of the MCHL Ironclad League so if there was a track that was played during the Zamboni /warm-ups that inspired feelings of “I’ve got to have that song!”, here is all the details that’s fit to print! :) The title comes from one of the earliest slogans of WMMO (the station that inspired compiling these lists in the first place!) which at the…
(This entry is very intensely emotional and personal and I'll understand if you choose to give it a miss!) The word "super" always had a special meaning between Dad and I for far longer than anyone else would have ever known of it's deeper meaning whenever he'd use it to answer their question. Today seems as good a day as any to finally let everyone else in on what it truly meant to the both of us...and still does to this day.
Tonight we have a marathon session of four back-to-back Ironclad games to finish the season. Trust me, you didn’t want to be playing in the last game of the evening…
Well, if it's an angst-laden playlist the players get, there's no way I'm not going to drop a Taylor Swift track in amongst the songs and see if it gets noticed! :)
We'd barely been able to process the 389th (!!!) senseless mass-shooting event at Brown University in Rhode Island before the grim newsflash from Bondi Beach near Sydney of an attack upon Jews celebrating Hanukkah (the festival of light) and it makes me wonder if we can see anything at all in the darkness seemingly consuming our world. :(
Tonight's pre-game tracks were partially inspired by a playlist being constructed for Martin Luther King Jr Day in the upcoming season of Ironclad...
I am genuinely conflicted as to what is more absurd...that this country has elected someone as President who is so clearly insecure and unable to live without sycophantic adoration or that FIFA felt compelled to make up a "peace prize" for a President whose body of work in that area doesn't bear close scrutiny!
Fortitude's blush probably has nothing on Babs Jansen's when a car moves at a particularly inopportune time during the riot at the end of "Animal House" but that tree puts on quite the show of red on the inexorable descent into being naked for winter!
Meditations on the life of a DJ with Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" being the inspiration for the first game's playlist! :)
Thanks to the Supreme Court, the bookies have been getting their slithery tentacles all over the sports landscape where now pretty much any sporting broadcast is chock full of adverts for sportsbooks and real-time betting lines on screen. But toward the end of one recent Hurricanes game, the bookies really seemed to go to absurd lengths with their offered odds…
Alex was hoping for a Snowpocalypse so he wouldn’t have to go to school. The lack of a Snowpocalypse didn’t stop Wake County schools from binning school anyway…
When the weather forecast turns ghastly and is of the wintry persuason round the Triangle, one can’t help but thinking of the great wintry calamities that have befallen an area utterly unprepared for the aftermath…
Even an impending Snowpocalypse (or Durmageddon) isn’t enough to keep us from seeing some old friends at the arena! :)
The one thing these tracks have in common? A fast-paced driving rhythm... :)
All it takes is another half metre of effort but apparently that's too much for this delivery driver... :(
Food Lion wasn't quite to the point of paying me to liberate this turkey from their freezer case...but I think Dad would still have been proud anyway! :)
Winging it with a playlist can be kind of scary...but that's what makes it so much *FUN* especially when your audience is really enjoying the seemingly random tracks! :)
YouTube served up a certain clip from "WKRP in Cincinnati" and that was the inspiration for today's Thanksgiving message...humour and the people you love in this world can get you through just about anything life can throw at you.
My cousin Hannah is arguably among the strongest and most courageous people I have ever known. In spite of pain so severe that it is almost unimaginable that it could be endured, she's managed to finish a master's degree and advocate strongly on the behalf of those who society would prefer to forget and do more in her time than most have with many more years behind them. Now she's in what is literally the fight to reclaim her life and fully realise her destiny of being a troublemaker of the very best kind this world desperately needs. Will you help her in her time of need?
